This wasn't our first time hosting a family holiday - I think my family prefers that we host because we have a resident chef! - but it was the first time I felt like I needed to decorate for a holiday and had nothing.  I mean, nothing.  And, I didn't want to buy anything.  We live in a tiny place in DC that doesn't even have a coat closet.  There is definitely no room for anything extra.  

Photos from the Harty ı Photography ı Washington, DC and beyond I still wanted things to look festive, though, so I got creative.  I had some old ribbon in a drawer, so I dug that out and tied it around everything I could - the ice bucket, planters... I went a little nuts with it.  I remembered my mom had given me cocktail napkins a few years ago that had daisies on them and looked pretty seasonal; why not add those to our table setting?

Then, I grabbed some colorful kitchen towels and threw them underneath some things.  I think it seemed to work nicely.  Nothing over the top, but who doesnt like cheap (free, in this case!) decorating tips?!  Everyone commented on how great it looked.  Even if they were lying, I was still happy with the way things came out!  Happy decorating! :)
